The Selangor government will discuss with the Malaysian Employers Federation (MEF) the setting up of an insurance scheme to protect workers who are laid-off.
Menteri Besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim said such an insurance scheme could help ease the burden of the laid-off workers.
"This scheme is not a compensation, but enough to help those who lose their jobs," he said at a luncheon and dialogue with Malaysian Trade Union Congress (MTUC) leaders in Shah Alam today.
Khalid said the state government would also form a special team to help workers who get laid off in the state.
