Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) vice-chancellor Prof Sahol Hamid Abu Bakar creates history as the first Asian to receive an honorary doctorate degree in engineering from Stuttgart University, Germany.
UiTM corporate communications assistant vice-chancellor Prof Ahmad Redzuan Abd Rahman said the recognition was in honour of Dr Sahol Hamid's achievement in scientific research, technical achievement in hydraulic engineering, and in new technology in water resources management.
"The conferment of this award was conveyed in a letter from the university's rector, Prof Dr Wolfram Ressel," he told Bernama in Shah Alam today.
Ahmad Redzuan said the letter stated that the university's senate had decided on the conferment based on recommendations from its Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering.
The award will be presented on Nov 18 in Stuttgart.
Meanwhile, the 57-year-old Penang-born Sahol Hamid said that he was proud and excited to have been named a recipient of the award from the university, a renowned institution in the field of engineering.
