Enforcement of the Control and Restriction of the Propagation of Non-Islamic Religions Enactment needs to be strengthened to prevent apostasy in the country.
Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Jamil Khir Baharom said enforcement in the states that implemented the enactment had not been properly carried out since they were formulated in 1980.
"What is important is that the enactment should be enforced in its true meaning instead of letting the enactment be formulated and its enforcement being neglected later," he told reporters in Kuala Lumpur today.
He said this when visiting the project site for the construction of the Sekolah Menengah Agama Majlis Agama Islam Wilayah Persekutuan (SMA-MAIWP) Complex in Bandar Sri Permaisuri, Cheras.
Among the states enforcing the enactment are Terengganu, Kelantan, Selangor, Malacca, Kedah, Pahang, Johor, Negeri Sembilan and Perlis.
Meanwhile, he said the construction of the SMA-MAIWP complex, which was scheduled for completion in June next year was expected to be completed one month earlier.
