The Council of Former People’s Representatives Malaysia (Mubarak) will have its own administrative building costing RM12mil next year.

Its president Abdul Aziz Abdul Rahman said the federal government has approved a 0.34 hectares (0.84 acres) piece of land in Jalan Sentul, Kuala Lumpur for the project.

“I am very grateful to the federal government and pray that this project will benefit Mubarak members,” he said at the signing of joint land development between Mubarak and SSF Properties at Putra World Trade Centre in Kuala Lumpur today.

Also present was Dewan Negara president Abu Zahar Ujang.

The four storey Mubarak Foundation administrative building will also house a two-star hotel.

Aziz said the land was approved in Feb 2009, thanks to hard work by Mubarak’s first president the late Abdul Razak Alias since its formation in 2005.

“He took the initiative to apply to then Federal Territories Minister Zulhasnan Mohd Rafique for a piece of land for Mubarak’s administrative building.

“It was then pursued by second president Abu Zahar and then myself.”

Thanking Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak for understanding Mubarak’s need for its own building, Aziz said Mubarak will have a meeting with the prime minister on Nov 10.

“As appreciation, Mubarak will meet the prime minister to discuss our role and contribution to help Barisan Nasional (BN) in the 13th general election,” he added.

Mubarak is curently operating from Umno headquarters at Menara Datuk Onn.
