Five men including an Indonesian pleaded not guilty in the Malacca Sessions Court today to two charges of robbing two family members of Deputy Home Minister Abu Seman Yusop.

On the first charge, Azlan Azmi, 29, Mohd Afandi Hassan, 24, Mohd Nizam Mohd Shahadan, 24, Mohd Azrul Aminrashid Jasmin, 26, and Indonesian Muhamad Yusuf Rahmat, 22, were accused of robbing Abu Seman's eldest sister Samidah Yusop, 74, of RM4,000 and a handphone at an unnumbered house at Batu 19 1/4 Kampung Paya Rumput Masjid Tanah, Alor Gajah at 11.30pm on Sept 21 this year.

On the second charge, they were accused of robbing Samidah's daughter Rosiah Mansor, 56, of two gold necklaces and two rings at the same time and place.

The charges were framed under Section 395 of the Penal Code, read with Section 34 of the same code, which carries a jail term of up to 20 years and whipping on conviction.

Deputy public prosecutor Mahmoodah Abdul Latiff prosecuted while the five were unrepresented.

Judge Abu Bakar Katar allowed bail of RM10,000 in one surety for each of the four accused, while the Indonesian man was denied bail, pending re-mention of the case on Dec 14.

Meanwhile, Azlan was also charged in the Magistrate's Court for disposing off stolen property - a gold necklace belonging to Rosiah Mansor, at Kedai Rizki Gold & Jewellery, at 2pm on Sept 24 this year.

He pleaded guilty to the charge and would be sentenced on Dec 19 in the Alor Gajah Magistrate's Court.
