The content development for tourism promotion on Facebook is part of the two-year social media development package, worth RM1.8 million, implemented by the Tourism Ministry, the Dewan Rakyat was told today.
Deputy Tourism Minister Dr James Dawos Mamit said that besides Facebook , the allocation was also used to develop a tourism website to attract more people to come to Malaysia.
“This include having competitions and gifts as promotions for those who enter the homepage,” he said when winding up a debate on behalf of the ministry.
He said the RM1.8 million spent for the package was small compared with the revenue of RM56.5 billion generated by the tourism industry last year.
In another development, Dr James Dawos said the ministry had allocated RM500,000 to carry out research on Islamic-based products in Malaysia, adding that strategic alliance was also carried out with other countries for the purpose.
