KR1M: Minister refuses Pua's debate dare

vox populi small thumbnail MatrixLYN: Consumer Affairs Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob has accused DAP's Tony Pua of being a racist again. Don't they have anything new? The mostly Chinese middle-class won't be buying from the KR1M (Kedai Rakyat 1Malaysia) stores anyway.

Who will be the main customers? The majority are the poor Malays. So is Pua a racist for raising an issue that will mostly affect the poor Malays?

Where is Perkasa? Malays are victimised with poisonous milk and its president, Ibrahim Ali, has got nothing to say?

Simon Lee 3ed5: The fact that Mydin - yes, only Mydin and no one but Mydin - is given RM40 million of taxpayers' money on a silver platter under the guise of providing cheap or rather low-quality products, only confirms the rotten state of affairs involving this corrupt regime.

Jiminy Qrikert: So Ismail Sabri says, "We do not compromise on quality.''

But his ministry is also responsible for ensuring that consumers are not cheated by unscrupulous traders who flout the law. So since the KR1M chilli and tomato sauces contravene the Food Act, is Ismail interested in protecting the interest of consumers?

Ismail, don't compromise on common decency - do what is right and act to safeguard the health and interest of the rakyat.

Blind Freddo: I know I'm particularly thick when it comes to thinking, Malaysian-style. But isn't it the opposition's task to find fault in the government's schemes in order to protect the public?

It's certainly not the role of the opposition to come up with answers to the government's incompetence.

Manjit Bhatia: Quoting the news report: "Homegrown hypermarket chain Mydin Mohamed Holdings Bhd is the chief beneficiary of the project. It will be supplying the products to 85 KR1M stores, which cost RM40 million in public funds."

1) Did Mydin win the contract through an open tender?

2) RM40 million to fund 85 of Mydin's stores smacks of cronyism since I have not found any declaration at the start nor have any of my sources been able to find one.

3) At a time when the regime was cautioning Malaysians to cast away their subsidy mentality, is this whole sordid episode not one that re-solidifies the regime's subsidisation of sections of the domestic economy?

Douglas Tan 25b2: It's not 85 KR1M stores. It is 85 stores that stock KR1M products. There are six actual KR1M retail outlets. The minister has been caught with his pants down.

Chua: LGE in no position to talk of voting rights

Chuath: MCA president Dr Chua Soi Lek's opposition to the extension of overseas voting to all Malaysians is to deny the birthright of the many Chinese who have to go overseas to study and seek greater opportunities.

The issue of hudud by PAS is nothing compared to what he and MCA is doing. Although we do not agree with PAS, at least we understand why they are pushing for it. It's their value system, their belief.

But we cannot understand how MCA can put hand to heart and say what they are doing is good and right for the Chinese or even the country.

2CTS WORTH: Chua, don't you have any new ideas? You are playing the hudud song like a broken record.

Hudud is not an issue for one thing. If we keep our hands clean, hudud doesn't affect us. On the other hand, the pirates who plunder and loot our resources make the country very much poorer.

Also, the problems arising from overseas voting is not your problem. Your problem actually is that MCA will face a gigantic tsunami of overseas voters, who are more inclined towards the opposition.

Your callous and unwarranted statement is foolish, and is about depriving the people of their rights.

Multi Racial: Chua and MCA are out of touch. Firstly, Malaysians are aware of DAP's stand on hudud.

Despite the BN-controlled, many Malaysians are well-aware of what DAP did within Pakatan Rakyat, and we are satisfied.

At least DAP is an equal partner within Pakatan and has a big say within the coalition. MCA on the other hand, is just a punching bag for Umno in BN.

Chua, don't try to change the subject. In reality, MCA is against overseas Malaysians, who are primarily Chinese Malaysians. So who are MCA representing?
