The money reported missing while in the safekeeping of an investigating officer of a case involving three Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) officers is not from robbery suspects as reported by the media today.

Selangor police chief Tun Hisan Tun Hamzah said the money amounting to RM11,700 was from two of three suspects in a robbery case involving US$300,000 at the KL International Airport (KLIA) in September.

The investigating officer who kept the money in a wallet found it missing at about 2pm on Nov 8.

“The officer also saw signs of tampering with the room door and table drawer. So far, 26 officers have been called up for questioning,” he said after attending Selangor Police Deepavali celebration in Shah Alam today.

Guests include inspector-general of police Ismail Omar and Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department G Palanivel, who is also MIC president.

Tun Hisan said investigation into the missing money is being made in accordance with Section 457 and Section 201 of the Penal Code.

“We will investigate whether the office was broken into and whether the loss of money was due to the negligence of the investigating officer.”

He added that police view the case seriously and will investigate all aspects and take action against the officers responsible.

Investigating officers’ rooms are not equipped with closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras.
