The People’s Progressive Party (PPP) will resubmit its proposed candidates list for the general election to include recommendations made by the party’s state leaders.

PPP president M Kayveas said Barisan Nasional secretary-general Tengku Adnan Mansor, who went through the initial list, has asked for a more detailed list.

He said the proposed initial list of candidates submitted on Oct 21 which excluded his name stated that PPP intended to contest 14 state seats and six parliamentary seats.

“I did not submit my name as the seat I contested has been allocated to Gerakan as they wanted it back. So I am without a seat at the moment,” he told reporters before chairing the party’s supreme council meeting in Kuala Lumpur today.

Kayveas, who has led PPP since 1993, said the new list might involve swapping of seats but it would depend on recommendations from the party’s state leaders.

He said the general election provides long serving party leaders to contest seats although the decision would be entirely up to the BN leadership.

“They (PPP leaders) should contest as many have worked hard for many years and are ready to go further.”

Asked about PPP’s proposed merger with Gerakan, Kayveas said that the PPP offer to Gerakan was still open.

"PPP proposed to merge with Gerakan in 2005 but they rejected openly and we were criticised for making it. The offer is still there but it is up to them,” he added.
