Plans for constructing the Sungai Buloh-Kajang MY Rapid Transit (MRT) line are on track with the line expected to be ready for operations in July 2017, said MRT Corporation chief executive officer Azhar Abdul Hamid.
He said MRT Corporation would try to avoid land acquisitions as far as possible, especially as land costs within the Kuala Lumpur city centre was expensive.
“Discussions on legal matters concerning land is still ongoing and hopefully we can resolve these land issues by end of the year or early next year,” he told reporters during the launch of the MRT Information Kiosk in Plaza Metro Kajang today.
He said MRT Corporation has taken into account issues of heritage buildings and livelihood in Jalan Sultan.
In its effort to raise public awareness on the MRT project, MRT Corporation today launched its information kiosk in Kajang.
Besides Plaza Metro Kajang, the company also has an information kiosk in Tesco Mutiara Damansara.
“The information kiosks that were recently set up at two busy shopping centres in the Klang Valley have proven to be a hit with the public with over 12,000 visitors at an average of 790 people daily since its inception on Nov 1,” he said.
Azhar said the company would be also opening kiosks in other locations including Jusco Maluri, Pasar Seni LRT station, Cheras Leisure Mall, The Store Sungai Buloh and Bangsar LRT station.
The information kiosks are part of MRT Corporation’s broader public engagement campaign which will eventually involve road shows as well as permanent information centres which will be up and running by the end of this month.
There will also be a mobile MRT Information unit which will allow MRT Corporation to bring information to people.
