Sarawak United People's Party (SUPP) Sibu branch chairperson Wong Soon Koh was returned unopposed at its triennial general meeting at Sibu today.

NONE The Bawang Assan state assemblyperson ( right ) is also local government and community development minister.

Former Pelawan state assemblyperson Vincent Goh Chung Siong was elected his deputy, replacing the late Sibu member of Parliament Robert Lau Hoi Chew, the deputy transport minister who died of liver cancer in April last year.

Lau was however, appointed permanent honorary chairperson, together with former party president Dr Wong Soon Kai.

Lau's wife, Janet Lau Ung Hie, retained her post as Wanita chief.

Toh Jack Kuong was elected Youth leader.

The branch also saw its bumiputera unit chief Andrew Shilling elected as oneof four vice-chairpersons.

Seven other bumiputera were appointed committee members.

With his re-appointment, Wong, also SUPP deputy secretary-general, can now focus on his bid for the president's post at its triennial delegates conference (TDC) in Kuching next month.

He will be challenged by Energy, Green Technology and Water Minister Peter Chin Fah Kui, who is also SUPP organising secretary and Miri member of Parliament.

About 600 delegates representing 43 branches will attend the TDC where the main agenda will be electing SUPP's new leader as current president Dr George Chan Hong Nam is not seeking re-election.

They will elect 135 Central Committee members and 25 central working committee (CWC) members.

The CWC members will then pick the new president and other office-bearers.
