The Court of Appeal in Putrajaya today ruled that Senator S Nallakarupan should furnish details to Anwar Ibrahim in connection with his allegation that the opposition leader had received RM60

million from him and a gaming company.

A three-member panel comprising Justices KN Segara, Abdul Wahab Patail and Clement Allan Skinner unanimously dismissed his appeal against a High Court senior assistant registrar’s order that he provide the details sought by Anwar who sued him (Nallakarupan) for RM50 million for defamation.

Nallakarupan has to provide the details within 14 days, beginning today.

Segara also ordered him to pay Anwar RM15,000 in legal costs.

On Aug 28, 2009, a senior assistant registrar ordered Nallakarupan to furnish the details as sought, that is, who gave the monies, when and where they were given.

Nallakarupan filed an appeal to the appellate court after he lost his appeal at the Kuala Lumpur High Court which had, on Nov 16, 2009, upheld the senior assistant registrar’s order.

He was sued by the Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) adviser over an article entitled, ‘Anwar terima RM60 juta’ (Anwar received RM60 million) which was published in the Mingguan Malaysia and Sinar Harian dailies in August 2008.

Anwar claimed that Nallakarupan had made a false and defamatory allegation about him at the Permatang Pauh by-election campaign on Aug 23, 2008.

However, in his defence, Nallakarupan alleged that the natural and ordinary meaning of the words spoken by him was that Anwar received the monies through an intermediary.

Nallakarupan was represented by lawyer S Sivanesan while Anwar was represented by R Sivarasa.
