National Feedlot Corporation (NFC) executive chairperson Dr Mohamad Salleh Ismail is among “more than three to four people” whose statements were recorded by the police to facilitate

investigations into possible criminal breach of trust involving the corporation.

His statement was recorded yesterday by the Bukit Aman Commercial Crime Department.

Inspector-general of police Ismail Omar said investigations were proceeding smoothly since the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission referred the case to the police a few days ago.

“More than three to four people were called in to facilitate investigations. Mohamad Salleh came to the Commercial Crime Department yesterday to get his statement recorded.

“The police are probing the matter from all angles,” he told reporters after attending the opening of the new Selangor police contingent headquarters by the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, near Shah Alam today.

Saying he had heard many versions of the story, Ismail said the public should refrain from speculating on the case.

“Please do not speculate. We must be fair to all parties here as the case  is still being investigated at an initial stage,” he said.

The NFC issue surfaced after the Auditor-General’s 2010 Report indicated the project had not met targets set by the government.

On another matter, Ismail urged the media not to speculate on the detention of 13 suspected Darul Islam terrorists in Tawau lask week.

The Star daily reported today that those detained were part of a group  believed to have plotted to assassinate a local assemblyperson.

“The police are currently probing the group’s actual plans,” he said, adding that initial police probe revealed that the group had shown signs of inciting harmful activities in the country.

Quoting counter-terrorism sources, the report said they were also planning  to hold a police officer hostage to secure the release of their comrades.
