PAC reveals NFC received loan before signing contract

your say Malaysian 53: Public accounts committee chief Azmi Khalid, why aren't you calling a spade a spade?

Don't try to hide the facts as there has been total flouting of procedures, mismanagement of funds and to top it all, the abuse of funds intended for a specific purpose but utilised for personal expenses, purchasing condominiums, etc.

Every year you tell us the same stories and nothing changes because the civil servants have no guts to stand up against the influential politicians such as Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin and his cronies.

Don't blame only the civil servants as you know the truth. When civil servants ‘kowtow' to the politicians of the day, such shenanigans will continue.

Swipenter: It is so obvious that we have the resources to make our country a first-class nation but sadly we are sorely lacking the competence and the political will to do so.

Our resources are blatantly mismanaged, wasted, squandered and leaked away by the political elites through cronyism, nepotism and corruption.

This NFC scandal is a good illustration of how RM250 million is carelessly approved by the cabinet to a crony who has no competence to manage cow rearing.

Apart from that, they abused and misused the funds for other projects/investments with the Finance and Agriculture and Agro Industries ministries impotent to control and check the funds after disbursements, according to minister Noh Omar.

Then we have Umno bigwig politicians like Khairy Jamaluddin defending the project as a success and those behind it, even in the light of what have surfaced in the Auditor-General's Report and the abuse and misuse of funds dug up the opposition politicians.

That is how irresponsibly Umno-BN manage our wealth and resources and the country.

ONG: When Azmi said that the PAC and the public were 'fed up' with this annual debacle and that the BN government is being cast in negative light because of this, he is either the dumbest human around or he is being a good actor.

Most of us know that the annual debacle is being repeated because of instructions from BN ministers, who are his colleagues and friends.

I don't believe Azmi is dumb, therefore he must be a very good actor. Even some Malaysiakini readers are convinced of his 'sincerity'.

James1067: Let's face the facts, nothing will happen. It is nothing new this has been happening year in and year out. Azmi is just doing damage control.

The local papers will carry the news that they are serious about correcting their mistakes, but nothing will happen.

To stop this mismanagement, it must start from the top.Only then will the bottom toe the line.

Bluemountains: PAC is actually ‘toothless' because it cannot bring the crooks to book. To me, it is a pure waste of taxpayers' time and money because nobody has been sent to jail despite massive cheating.

SusahKes: Why are you frustrated, Azmi? Why aim at the civil service when your Umno big boss has no qualms about practising ‘I help you, you help me'?

You cannot be that naive to assume that the lower levels do not look at the top and go, "well, if the boss is doing it, then why not me?"

When they hear of the US$24 million diamond ring or the Birkin bags or an ex-PM's son who is on the Forbes list or the cows and condos project, why should anyone be surprised?

You can have as many PAC meetings as you care to have - around the clock all year - but believe me, no serious change will take place.

Ghkok: "Lack of coordination", "weak management", and yet "good intentions" - the PAC chairman conveniently skipped the crucial questions of fraud, abuse of power and corruption.

He conveniently turned the attention on the civil servants - and skipped the question of whether BN ministers and their powerful cronies have anything to do with it. Who calls the shots?

Yusri: Who is going to return all the money spend? Indeed, every sen must be returned. It is time for public to take legal action against the government for not following proper procedures in granting the loan.

Every one of those involved in the loan approval must be made liable as this is public money. And they must be put behind bars.

Blind Freddo: Azmi says that "the PAC and the people" are fed up with this annual debacle. But the people don't know half of what is written on the pages of Malaysiakini .

Example 1: I asked my beef supplier what he thought of the NFC scandal. He had never heard of the NFC and had no idea where his beef came from.

Example 2: I have never seen Gemas Gold beef at any of the Giant supermarkets I frequent, until this week, when miraculously, scungy little pieces of chuck steak appeared for RM32 per kilo.

For those of you who don't know, chuck steak is from the neck area and is hardly the sort of steak you would think of for grilling. It is better that it be used for mince.

But getting back to my original point - the people don't know because they are not allowed to know, but what is worse, most don't want to know.
