Transparency International-Malaysia did the audit wrong. It should have been lower. If a screwdriver can cost RM50,000, it's corruption beyond extreme.

Anonymous_3e0b: From 36th in 2001 to 44th in 2006 - an eight point slide. From 44th in 2006 to 60th in 2011 - a further 16 points slide.

This reflects very badly on the MACC (Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission), the attorney-general and the police.

Please do something without further delay as the seemingly lackadaisical attitudes adopted by the authorities is most unwarranted.

That the rankings are not accurate because the criteria and measurement methods that they use cannot be applied to our country? Haven't we all heard this one before?

Umno more democratic than parties A, B and C, says Najib

Cala: I do not see any merit in PM Najib Razak's attacks against the opposition. As Najib rightly argued, the proof of the pudding is in the eating.

From this perspective, is Malaysia considered having a satisfactory level of democracy? Weil (2009, p. 365) puts Malaysia's level of democracy in the same league as Kuwait, Ukraine, Zambia, Guantemala, etc, and hence nothing to shout about.

Malaysia is way behind the First World. Is it not Najib's claim that he would bring the country to First World status by 2020? If so, why is he not comparing Malaysia with First World nations?

Curious: Insanity is defined by doing something the exact same way but expecting a different result.

Based on the reports on the Umno AGM (I am referring not only to Malaysiakini by the way) it seems that they are more concerned about demonising the opposition rather than showing that they are more capable.

Perhaps maybe they should explain explicitly how they plan to bring benefits all Malaysians?

AkuMelayu: I concur with that the present government is not perfect. Everyone knows that and I believe the leaders also realise their weaknesses.

Do you think that they had not learnt from the March 2008 tsunami? I'm sure they are aware of the consequences if they continue to be complacent.

I believe Najib and his team is serious with the transformation and the rakyat, regardless of their ethnicity, will benefit.

In Umno, the husband of a minister can get easy RM250 million of the taxpayers' money to spend how he likes. We, too, do not need to say anything.

Disbeliever: Let us have clean politics, Najib. Please do not run down, hammer, hit out or smear the opposition. Likewise the opposition should also not resort to such uncouth methods. Put forward what you have to offer.

Umno-BN, tell us why we should vote for you again, why we should give you another chance despite more than 50 years of cronyism. And for the opposition, tell us why we should let you take over Putrajaya.

Both sides should do this in a gentlemanly way, not the way some of the speakers at the Umno general assembly are currently doing, using derogatory words against the opposition.

Play clean politics without resorting to dubious means such as the alleged Project IC and other sinister operations. Let the people be the judge at the ballot box.

Onyourtoes: Do you know the irony, dear PM, of saying that the proof of the pudding is in the eating?

We want to see democracy and fair play in deeds rather than in words. Now, can you please look at the records of Umno in recent decades?

Please don't boast about your party being more democratic. Do you know who stated the moronic culture of postponing the annual general meeting of political parties, no contests for number one and number two positions in a party, identifying delegates to speak and what to speak?

It is Umno, and of course subsequently copied lock, stock and barrel by all other BN component parties.

Aziz Kader: As long the parties are named by race: MIC, MCA, Umno; who will fight for Malaysians?

Veeps willing to lead the way by stepping aside

Hang Babeuf: I remember this move from school. The prefects would issue the call: "We must all be ready to jump into the ocean if the school's honour requires it. We, for our part, are ready to do so - right now, if necessary! Are you?"

So, with a grumble, everybody else would say, "Yes, we are ready to jump when asked."

Then the perfects would meet and decide who was to jump.

They themselves never did. They were needed, it seems, for other things - like to decide who would have to jump into the ocean. As such, their feet had to remain dry. It was hard to make big decisions with wet feet.

P Dev Anand Pillai: This is just cheap talk they engage in at every AGM and the media makes it look as though these individuals are gracious enough to understand that they have overstayed their welcome.

But after the AGM, they will then say that their work is not finished and they still have a lot to do for the sake of the party.

These leaders are not bothered about the people. We, as the people of Malaysia, have to take over the reins of this country and ensure that no politician or political party holds us for ransom like what Umno-BN has done for the past 54 years.

We have to fight back through the ballot box.
