The people still have faith in Kedai Rakyat 1Malaysia (KR1M) even though the opposition parties tried to politicise the issue on the withdrawal of 13 products from the retail chain, said the Minister of Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism, Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

He said this was proven when the sales at KR1M increased by 15 percent in the wake of opposition attempts to run down the products on sale at the shop.

Ismail Sabri clarified that the withdrawal of 13 Kedai Rakyat 1Malaysia (KR1M) products was not related to the issue of safety or cleanliness of food as exaggerated by the opposition party.

"On the other hand, the withdrawal was due to the wrong labeling of food and composition under regulations of the Food Act 1985," he told reporters after chairing his ministry's monthly meeting, in Kuala Lumpur today.

He said the ingredients were inadvertently mislabeled but it was never meant to deceive the people.

In fact, he said two of the 13 products withdrawn, namely sardine in tomato sauce and evaporated creamer were back on the shelves of the shop after corrections were made to the label.
