The former chairperson of a cooperative faced three charges at the Sessions Court in Klang today under the Co-operative Societies Act 1993.  

Mohd Samsuri Jamiran, 57, pleaded not guilty after the charges were read out to him before Judge Anita Harun.   

On the first count, the accused who was Koperasi Bina Jaya Kuala Selangor Berhad chairperson at the time, was charged with failing to manage and monitor the use of funds amounting to RM240,000 in compliance with the letter of offer for assistance, dated June 16 2009, from the Cooperative Societies Commission (CSC).

   

The second count was in relation to a failure to manage and monitor the use of the same funds whereby no approval was obtained from the cooperative’s board of directors.   

The final charge was on the failure to disclose his interest in Syarikat Dargo Enterprise which was appointed to provide the initial capital funding for Koperasi Bina Jaya’s chili project.     

He allegedly committed the offences at Jalan Bendahara 10/7, Taman Bendahara, Kuala Selangor between June and August 2009, and Feb 7, 2009, respectively.  

He faces up to six years imprisonment or fine of up to RM200,000 and RM500,000 upon conviction, under the Co-operative Societies Act 1993.

Koperasi Bina Jaya Kuala Selangor was formed in 2008 and has since been closed following a CSC investigation.

Judge Anita allowed bail at RM25,000 with one surety for all three counts and set Jan 16, 2012 for mention, pending appointment of legal counsel and submission of documents.
