The first 1Malaysia People's Fish Shop opened today to offer a variety of fresh fish, chicken, meat and vegetables at about 40 percent cheaper than market price.

The shop, which is owned by Restoran Ikan Bakar Sekinchan (RIBS), was opened by Agriculture and Agro-based Industries Ministry deputy chief secretary Raihan Sharif, who hoped more private companies to emulate the initiative.

“The government will help the private companies to get the supply at reasonable prices through government agencies,” he said after launching the shop at Plaza Centrum, Setiawangsa in Kuala Lumpur today.

Raihan said the ministry often monitored the quality of the product in the shop which also sold small-and-medium industry (SMI) products.

Meanwhile, RIBS owner and founder of the fish shop, Jamal Md Yunos, targets to open 33 retail outlets including three which will be opened soon at Mahkota Cheras, Setapak and Bandar Tasik Permaisuri.

“Although we offer the products at cheap prices, the quality will be maintained. Every day we will make sure the goods sold are fresh,” he said.

The shop is open every day from 6am to 10pm.
