your say Onyourtoes: I know this is easier said than done: leadership is about teaching and reinforcing in your followers the virtues of moderation, sharing and tolerance.

Leadership is showing examples to your followers what constitute good governance, integrity and competency. If leaders have all these virtues, whatever the religion they hold dear will manifest itself more brilliantly than any rhetoric the leaders may want to indulge in.

As said by many commentators in Malaysiakini and elsewhere to the point of ad nauseam, this country is rich enough for everyone's need. Rule with compassion, fairness and honesty, I am sure whatever your religion will be accepted by the majority of the people.

The world has changed; please don't trap yourself in perpetual parochialism, bigotry and jingoism.

Sewajarnya: It's truly great to know that PAS have looked deep into their religious teachings and found an appropriate approach to meet a multi-ethnic society's needs. 'Kepintaran PAS mesti boleh'!

Hypotheses by their nature are testable, yes; but in the case of PAS, if you understand logic (do you?), PAS' reversal on hudud law is time testable. Let's wait until the next election is over.

You sound like one of the many Malaysians who buries his head in the sand. Read the PAS document carefully and between the lines, and understand PAS politics and Islamic politics in Malaysia.

You don't even know your own country. I don't need to talk to PAS spiritual leader Nik Aziz Nik Mat for confirmation.

The ignorance you've displayed in your post - of shooting the messenger instead of the message - is unsurprising: when you can't offer an intelligent and credible response, denigrate the commentator instead.

Hang Babeuf: "Have you included the hudud law punishments in the PAS policy statement?" No. "Have you then renounced the implementation of the hudud punishments?" No. So, is that overall "a good thing?" Decidedly no.

It's hard to be positive about any evasive formulation that leaves open the possibility of the implementation of the hudud punishments.

A merited exasperation with Umno/BN and a fervent desire to see Pakatan Rakyat as a potential agent of progressive change should not blind anybody to the terrible risks here.

Wait if you wish to see the fearful outcome. Demur silently now in frail hope, and regret later at ample leisure. Or just say clearly now and insist, "No hudud!"

SusahKes: My definition of high taxes includes not only the direct income tax one pays, but also various indirect taxes, for example, car duties, toll charges, ever increasing electricity and water charges (yes, this is a form of tax, since you need to pay for usage of a basic service, whilst the cronies are getting rich), road tax, etc.

You may say your individual tax rate is, say, 20 percent; but the effective tax rate you incur must also include the additional tax you pay because Umno has seen it fit to impose such costs in order to facilitate ‘I help you, you help me'.

What about the extra licensing fees businesses need to pay - from the local council to the various ‘jabatan kerajaan' (government departments) - all for the sake of doing my small-scale business/industry?

If PAS carries on with its promise, one of the things I hope to see is the simplification of licensing for SMEs (small and medium enterprises).

Ipohcentury: PAS is a political party that cares for the people unlike Umno which cares for their pockets.

The sole intention of Umno-BN is to divide and rule and segregate Malaysians into racial compartments and divide the people so that they will retain and remain in power and continue to plunder till eternity.

Malaysians have realised this now and Umno-BN will be taught a lesson at the 13th general elections. Arise Malaysians arise, let us throw out Umno-BN.

Even in my first GE in 1969, I voted PAS while I was in Pahang. Get real, fellow Malaysians, chuck out Umno-BN and vote in PAS and Pakatan Rakyat to take this nation forward, please.
