A family cheated death when their house collapsed in a landslide in Kampung Sungai Charu, Jalan Sungai Lembing in Kuantan today.

In the 10am incident, two bedrooms and the bathroom of the house located on a hillslope collapsed after some earth movement underneath.

Paya Besar Member of Parliament Abdul Manan Ismail, who visited the family, believed the landslide was due to an underground waterway.

“Authorities are investigating the incident which caused estimated loss of  RM20,000,” he said when met in Kuantan today.

The house was occupied by Wan Mah Wan Ali, 70, her son Mohd Shafie Adam, 30, and two grandchildren, Taufik Mohd Shafie, 11, and Nor Shafikah Hafizah Mohd Shafie, nine.

Abdul Manan said the family of four are temporarily staying at Pancing Community Centre.

“The Social Welfare Department has identified the type of aid to be given to to the family involved,” he added.

Meanwhile, Wan Mah said that her grandson Taufik who was playing outside told her of erosion near her house.

“I went out to look and was shocked when two bedrooms and the bathroom suddenly collapsed.”

However, Wan Mah was grateful that her family members escaped unhurt in the landslide.
