Untrained attachment teachers are crying foul as their new contracts require them to be in school on Saturday and Sunday.

Untrained Attachment Teachers Action Committee chairperson Shamil Nor asked the government to review the contract as it was unfair to ask some 8,000 untrained attachment teachers to work seven days a week.

He said the new contract also required the teachers to pay back to the government the difference in their old and new salaries from October to December which amounted to RM3,476.

 

“Ironically, the employer’s contribution and the employee’s deduction to the Employees Provident Fund are missing in the new contract,” he told reporters at the Umno Youth office in Kuala Lumpur yesterday.

He said the teachers were only informed of the revised contract on Nov 10 although it came into force on Oct 17.

“Although the new contract has taken effect, a number of district education offices had yet to inform the teachers who are required to sign the Akujanji (Undertaking) pledge on the new contract tomorrow,” he said.

Meanwhile, Umno Youth secretary Megat Firdouz Megat Junid said he would take up the matter with the Education Ministry.
