Johor MIC claims that Indian support for the Barisan Nasional (BN) in the state has risen from a low 45 percent in 2008 to more than 75 percent now.  

Its secretary, M Asojan, said the Indians who backed the opposition parties in the general election in 2008 have switched to supporting the BN again.

Asojan, who is Bukit Gambir assemblyperson and a state executive councillor, said the Indian electorate in Johor and elsewhere in the country acknowledged that only the BN can champion their cause.

Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak and Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin have initiated various social and economic programmes to help the Indian community in collaboration with the MIC, he told Bernama recently.

Asojan said that in Johor, Menteri Besar Abdul Ghani Othman plays a similar role by implementing various programmes in aid of the Indian community, and has resolved problems related to Tamil schools, temples and the economy.

Johor MIC holds four state seats in the state, namely Bukit Gambir, Kahang, Permas and Tenggaroh. MIC deputy president Dr S Subramaniam holds the Segamat parliamentary seat, also in Johor.
