The federal government, through the Parliamentary Agriculture Development Council, has allocated RM500,000 this year to help 74 Tasek Gelugor farmers to increase their yield.

Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Mohamed Yakcop said the allocation was for infrastructure upgrading and marketing assistance.

"We will identify the types of assistance in line with the requirements of applicants. Among the assistance we have given so far are livestock breeds, machinery and electrical items.

"Forty-seven applicants have received the assistance while the rest will receive theirs soon," he told Bernama after chairing the Tasek Gelugor agriculture development council here, yesterday.

Nor Mohamed, who is Tasek Gelugor member of parliament, said a committee would be set up to monitor the progress of aid recipients.
