Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Jamil Khir Baharom said an investigation will be made over the claim of a same-sex marriage abroad allegedly involving a Malay man.   

"We will have to investigate because even people of other countries wear a 'tengkolok' (headgear). Let's see," he told reporters after attending the convocation at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) in Bangi.   

A newspaper today reported that a website had published the same-sex marriage of a man in Malay attire, complete with headgear, to a Caucasian in a church abroad.

On the two prayers at one congregation on Fridays at several mosques in Terengganu, Jamil Khir said the matter should be handled with prudence by the state Islamic religious council.

The Sultan of Terengganu, Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidin, had expressed disappointment yesterday over the matter.

The sultan had said that such a practice can tarnish the sanctity of Islam and subject the religion to ridicule.

11 mosques identified

Meanwhile, the Terengganu Islamic Affairs Department has identified 11 mosques unrecognised by the government, many of them in the Besut district, promoting two prayers in one congregation on Fridays, Menteri Besar Ahmad Said said today.   

He said he has asked the Terengganu Islamic Religion and Malay Customs Council (Maidam) to take the appropriate action in the interest of Muslims.

Ahmad said he held PAS and its leaders responsible for creating the situation of two prayers in one congregation on Fridays.    

He said the PAS leaders should rectify the situation as it could cause ill-feeling in the community.  

"Mosques are places for unity, not places to sow disunity," he told reporters after attending the Wisma Darul Iman Family Day in Kuala Terengganu.
