About 200 types of foodstuff sold at the Kedai Rakyat 1Malaysia (KR1M) have been sent to the Health Ministry's laboratory for tests on cleanliness and quality.    

Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob said the action was taken following allegations by certain quarters that the foodstuff sold at the KR1M were of low quality.    

"The test results will be known in a week's time," he said after officially opening a KR1M in Kerayong, Bera, today.    

He said over 250 types of goods, mostly food like milk, eggs and canned food were sold at the KR1M at 40 percent cheaper than at the normal sundry shops and supermarkets.    

"The government targets 25 more KR1M to be opened before the year-end, with the Kerayong outlet opened today being the 24th," he said.    

Ismail Sabri denied that the KR1M were adversely affecting the livelihood of other sundry shop operators.    

"The existence of the KR1M is not curtailing their business as these sundry shops are allowed to sell 1Malaysia products provided they have separate racks for these products," he said.
