All flapped up over the word 'frog'

VOXPOP ‘Lim Boo Chang, you jumped from Gerakan to MCA and then to PKR and now you are going back to Gerakan. What do you call this?'

Ng given 24 hours to apologise over 'frog' remarks

vox populi small thumbnail Lim Choon Yang: The word ‘katak' (frog) has been used by every right-thinking Malaysian to describe any politician who switches camp. It does not matter if he/she is from BN or the opposition.

So former Penang municipal councillor Lim Boo Chang, if some other 20 or 30 Malaysians call you a ‘katak', you going to sue all of them?

You can't. It's a fact. It's a word to describe a person who switches political camps.

Kee Thuan Chye: A person who jumps from party to party to party has already sullied his own reputation. Whether he is called ‘frog' or ‘prostitoad' or whatever, it is merely a matter of semantics.

His own action already speaks for itself. In the eyes of the public, he is already an object of public odium.

Free & Fair Election: Dear Mr Lim, you jumped from Gerakan to MCA and then to PKR and now you are going back to Gerakan. What do you call this?

Reborn: Ng is an arrogant little captain Penang. He believes that ‘emperor' Lim Guan Eng rules the state of Penang, and he is the master of the palace court.

These are the people that make supporting DAP very difficult, or think of them being anything other than a Chinese-based party. This guy's history is filled with abuses of power.

Boo Chang, no use to sue, this is the DAP way, you just do as you planned as it hurts Ng and DAP more that you can't be bothered about them. They would not have made you a councillor if you counted for nothing.

JBGUY: A political chameleon who has no integrity. Lim should just accept the fact that he is a ‘frog' on all counts. Stop croaking and crawl back to where you belong.

Ong: If this case goes to court, Penang CM's political secretary Ng Wei Aik should ask Perkasa chief Ibrahim Ali to be his witness.

Ibrahim will testify that being labelled a frog has done his reputation absolutely no harm, or caused him any embarrassment and distress.

Ibrahim will further argued that since being labelled as a frog, his reputation and standing among his Perkasa supporters has been enhanced.

Opinions of enemies and opponents are irrelevant. However, Lim must assure Ibrahim that he will not try to take over his position as ‘king of frogs'. Otherwise, Ibrahim may not testify on his behalf.

In the case of Lim, I bet his reputation among all the frogs and frog lovers of this world has been enhanced since being labelled a frog.

After this, his chances of getting appointed to a BN government position, which is higher and more prestigious than that of a lowly municipal councillor, would have been enhanced too.

Dr M lied and continues to lie, says PKR

Proarte: The real issue is why did Malaysia need to borrow relatively paltry sums of money from the World Bank when Petronas was bailing out companies in dire straits to the tune of billions during the financial crisis?

We all remember that Dr Mahathir Mohamad's son Mirzan's shipping company was bailed out by Petronas for over a billion ringgit.

To my mind, the World Bank may have wanted to have a cosy relationship with leaders of developing countries and did not ask too many questions when doling out these sums; after all, the interest would make the loans worthwhile.

It would come as no surprise if the money was misappropriated by the Mahathir administration.

CAT Lover: In most societies, retired top politicians repent the harsh policies they once defended on behalf of some obscure minority's interest. In fact, all of them move toward the left once they see the ‘big picture'.

But not so Dr M, who continues to deny, deny and deny until he, well, drops dead. It is pretty obvious that the man will go down in history like North Korea's Kim Jong-il but rest assured that TV3 will bring us the crying news readers as well, if not some minister at Dr M's feet in hospital bed, appealing to the Great Leader to never die for the people will be lost forever.

Malaysians would greatly benefit by learning about real leaders - Mahatma Gandhi, Nelson Mandela, Aung San Suu Kyi, and Václav Havel from the Czech Republic, who sadly passed away a couple of days ago.

Imagine, Malaysia, having a dissident essayist and poet for president, who saved the country from corruption, suppression and fake communist-style politics, and who was repeatedly jailed. See the similarities.

Tailek: So all that has been written about Dr M and how he saved the nation from the evil clutches of the IMF (International Monetary Fund) and the World Bank is just a lot of self serving lies and drivel.

We must make sure our history books print the true account of this episode and do not give too much credit to the man.

Hermit: A person who lies occasionally becomes a deceiver. Whilst born honest, a deceiver without realising it, deceives even himself.

A deceiver who was born a Tamil deceived himself into a true Malay. All his deceptions in the course of his life are nothing but lies and falsehoods turned into practice.

Alas, it's indeed disheartening to witness a man born honest become a deceiver till death.

Abasir: Having gingerly straddled the threshold between truth and falsehood for so long, it is very possible that Mahathir has lost the ability to discern one from the other.

This frequently happens to the worst of them, especially those afflicted by megalomania. He may soon become an object of pity.
