The Madrasah Salihiah at Jalan Tambang Badak in Alor Setar will be demolished to pave the way for a new development, Kedah Menteri Besar Azizan Abdul Razak said.
Azizan said the demolition would take place after the construction of all other premises have been completed.
“We and the developers have agreed that the last to be demolished is the old surau,” he told reporters in Alor Setar today.
Azizan said he visited the site two days ago and that the developer, Belleview Group, had confirmed that there was nothing wrong with the project in terms of the law.
“The project will be completed in 32 months. The developer will also begin the construction of a five-star hotel in the area,” he said.
Azizan said he had seen the plan for the new surau which will be able to accommodate about 400 people.
The project, known as Aman Central, a new lifestyle shopping mall in the heart of Alor Setar city, will provide 2,000 jobs for the locals, he said.
