Deputy Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Minister Tan Lian Hoe today called on all cafeteria operators at public and private universities to participate in the 1Malaysia People’s Menu (MR1M) programme to enable students to enjoy food at lower prices.
“The programme is voluntary, the government cannot force the operators, but we do hope that they will participate in the programme in view of the rising costs of living,” she told reporters after visiting Mutiara Damansara Tesco Hypermarket near Kuala Lumpur today.
She said that in response to a question on which university would emulate Universiti Malaya (UM) in implementing the MR1M programme.
Yesterday, Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak visited the MR1M restaurant at UM as well as its 1Malaysia People’s Shop (KR1M) which offers lower prices for various consumer products.
Meanwhile, Tan also said that the cafeteria at the Parliament building would also introduce the MR1M next year.
Apart from that, she said the MR1M would also be introduced at the cafeteria in all ministries, departments and government’s agencies.
