Tendong PAS assemblyperson Muhammad Md Daud, 64, passed away at his house in Kampung Perangkap, Bunut Susu, near Pasir Mas early this morning.

His eldest son, Ahmad Fathi, 34, said his father had a heart attack as he

was preparing to go to bed at about 12.50am.

PAS spiritual leader Nik Aziz Nik Mat reported the news on his Facebook in the early hours of the morning.

“He was said to have passed away suddenly at home. My deepest condolences to the family.

“I hope his passing in the midst of service (to the state) will be counted as a good deed in the eyes of Allah,” said the party veteran and Kelantan menteri besar.

According to Pasir Mas PAS chief Haji Hanifa Ahmad, the burial is scheduled for this afternoon.

"Kelantan menteri besar Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat has been informed over the matter.

“His remains will be buried after the zohor prayers with Nik Aziz leading in performing solat jenazah," Hanifa who is also Pengkalan Pasir assemblyperson told the party organ, Harakah .

He said Muhammad’s remains are presently at the latter’s residence in Bunut Susu.

The 62 year-old former University Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) lecturer in Islamic studies leaves behind his wife, Wahidah Nik Abdullah, and six children, the youngest aged 15.

No by-election

Following the rep's death, there will be no by-election as the Kelantan legislative assembly has exceeded two-thirds of its term. The seat will be filled at the next polls.

Tendong is one of two state seats under the Pasir Mas parliamentary constitutency held by Independent MP Ibrahim Ali.

In the 2008 general election, Muhammad beat Umno's Mohamad Fauzi Mohamad with a majority of 1,657 votes to claim the seat.

He bagged 8,105 votes to Mohamad Fauzi’s 6,448.

According to Bernama , Kelantan speaker Mohd Nasaruddin Daud said he will inform the Election Commission on the rep's death on

Monday.
