The National Registration Department (NRD) has apologised to Perlis Mufti Juanda Jaya for difficulties encountered when applying for his daughter's MyKad in Kuching, Sarawak recently.

Its director-general Jariah Mohd Said said in a statement today, the issue came about as the officer at the counter did not consult senior officers when in doubt.

"NRD has identified problems that arose and measures were taken to  improve weaknesses so that officers at counters perform their duties professionally," she said.

Juanda had criticised NRD after being informed that his daughter was not eligible to apply for MyKad as she was not a Malaysian citizen.

Jariah said the applicant's MyKad is ready for collection at Kuching NRD office.

"NRD never intended to deny the right and citizenship status of his daughter (Sumaiyah Syahidah) as a citizen of Malaysia," she said.
