A former senior procurement officer of Digi Telecommunication Sdn Bhd was sentenced to four years jail and fined RM2.075 million by the Sessions Court here today after he was found guilty of receiving bribes from a company 14 times for a total amount of RM415,000.  

Judge Asmadi Hussein ordered the accused, S Stanley, 39, from Bandar Kinrara, Puchong, to serve an additional 14 years jail if he defaulted on the fine.

The judge, however, allowed a stay of execution of the sentences pending appeal to the High Court but raised the bail amount from RM50,000 to RM250,000 in one surety.

Stanley was also ordered to report himself to the nearest police station the first Sunday of each month.

The accused was charged with soliciting the gratification for himself through a Maybank account from Syarikat Nakhoda Sistem Sdn Bhd in return for selecting the company to be a supplier of cables and telecommunications equipment to Digi Telecommunication.

He was accused of committing the offences at the Maybank branch in Taman Kinrara, Puchong near here between Aug 13, 2007 and Oct 22, 2008.

He was charged under Section 11 (a) of the Anti-Corruption Act 1997 and was liable to be jailed a minimum of 14 days and a maximum of 20 years and fined five times the corrupt amount or RM10,000, whichever is higher.

Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission deputy public prosecutor Muhammad Sinti prosecuted while the accused was represented by counsel M Athimulan.
