The authorities are being called upon to immediately investigate the action by a group of neighbouring nationals who were involved in distributing opposition party flyers amounting to incitement at the squatter village in Kampung Saujana Baru, Pasir Gudang.

Villager Salim Aziz, 50, said at noon on Jan 1, cars with red number plates from the neighbouring country were seen accompanying an opposition group who were distributing flyers.

"The opposition party members went door to door in the village and distributed the flyers and party newspapers and they were accompanied by cars from the neighbouring country with red number plates," he told Bernama today.

Salim, the village Umno branch head, questioned the foreigners' involvement in local politics.

He said it was the first time such an incident occurred in the squatter village and an unofficial complaint was made to an officer in the Seri Alam police headquarters after that day.   

A police officer, who wished to remain anonymous as he was not allowed to make media statements, advised the villagers to record the foreign cars' registration numbers.

"We also advise them to lodge a police report immediately," he said.

Meanwhile, Pasir Gudang Umno committee member Norwati Abdul Manaf who had highlighted the issue said, the opposition was attempting to wrest the Pasir Gudang parliamentary seat, presently held by Higher Education Minister Mohamed Khaled Nordin who is head of the Umno division there as well.

Norwati said the opposition was trying to influence the residents of eight squatter villages in the Pasir Gudang constituency by twisting the issue on village land applications, which have yet to be resolved until now.   

"There are 15,000 voters in the villages. The opposition have entered the villages in their attempt to topple BN, without us being aware of it," said Norwati who is also an officer of the Johor Special Affairs Department.

DAP has brought its main leaders like Lim Kit Siang, Lim Guan Eng and Karpal Singh to speak at the Johor Jaya state constituency which comes under the Pasir Gudang parliamentary constituency, she added.

Tan Cher Puk from MCA is the current Johor Jaya assemblyman and Permas, also under Pasir Gudang, is held by a representative from MIC, she said.
