Leading up to Jan 9, the date of the High Court’s decision on Anwar Ibrahim’s sodomy trial, his staunch supporters are believed to have vandalised several Umno buildings in Kedah by spraying graffiti on them, last night.

NONE The public also became victims as buses and cars were sprayed black and slogans such as ‘free Anwar’ and ‘901 movement’ were painted on them.

The Tunku building, which houses the Kedah Umno liaison office, the state Development Board and CIMB Bank, were sprayed with insults against the party.

The Padang Terap Umno building in Kuala Nerang and Kubang Pasu in Jitra were not spared by the irresponsible group.

Kedah Umno lodged reports on the matter at the Alor Setar, Kuala Nerang and Jitra police stations this morning.

Kedah Umno liaison chairperson Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah said they were very disappointed with the provocative vandalism and described its perpetrators as thugs.

“Only cowards would do such deeds,” he said and called on them to face Umno instead of defacing the buildings at night.

Opposition leader, state assemblyperson and Padang Terap Umno head Mahdzir Khalid considered the act as something carried out by rude and vengeful people.

Kubang Pasu member of parliament and Agriculture and Agro-based Industries Deputy Minister Mohd Johari Baharum said the act was way out of line and showed that Anwar supporters were so obsessed that they dared to make threats.
