Umno veteran: Sodomy verdict alone not sufficient

your say MfM: I guess many Umno veterans are beginning to see the writing on the wall. The truth is, when they were young, they thought only of the world.

Now that they're old, they begin to think of how people will remember them, something which seems to be absent with former PM Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

It's good to see Umno veterans actually fighting the good fight. During their heydays, Umno was far less corrupt than it is today. They started their political career when Tunku Abdul Rahman and Abdul Razak Hussein were still around in building this country.

Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah and gang seem to realise where the country is headed under PM Najib Razak and Muhyiddin Yassin and know there is the need to put a stop to it.

Only Pakatan Rakyat can do this now as Umno is beyond repair.

The only way Umno will reform is to lose in the general election and become a credible opposition in a viable two-party system.

Lim Chong Leong: The start of something from the judiciary? I wouldn't hold my breath. There is still a copycat judge out there.

The acquittal was because there was no other choice for Najib, as to convict would make the judiciary into an international laughing stock and plunge whatever was left of his popularity into oblivion.

As for Abdul Kadir Sheikh Fadzir's description of the new chief justice, Arifin Zakaria, as being God-fearing, there is no point in that unless he wants to recognise sumpah laknat as a court procedure to prove one's innocence.

2CTS WORTH: Yes sir, Anwar and his gang will bring Malaysia to its glorious days again. The Umno goons' instant trumpeting of the independence of the jury after the verdict is plain hogwash.

You slap a guy everyday, then you cease for one day to say all is well. These are childish and low-grade leaders expecting us to believe in instant change. Nevertheless, instant change of government is not far off.

Absolom: With the winds of change sweeping across the political landscape, there is bound to be a lot more of this type. Perhaps there are no sinister motivations with Abdul Kadir but it's hard to believe.

Forget about what people want to think about your intentions but I think you were right in your saying that the judges must now take the opportunity to discharge their duties without fear or favour.

They can see clearly that they have been made pawns in the political game and made a mockery of it as well.

So, let the politicians do their stuff and we the rakyat can sleep well knowing we can trust the judges to do the checks-and-balance.

Yes, Kadir, a golden start is what they also called it when Abdullah Ahmad Badawi feted the likes of former Lord President Salleh Abas and other judges who were affected by the government's prior interference with our judiciary; and what happened after that?

The judiciary showed us where their ‘leanings' were in the Perak state grab case.

On one thing you are right: The sodomy verdict alone isn't sufficient; for full rehabilitation, we need Umno to vacate Putrajaya for a few terms. Only then can we Malaysians sleep well.
