Penang CM and state exco members declare assets

Anonymous_4031: Congratulations, Lim Guan Eng (LGE) and fellow exco members of the Penang administration.

Now, will Prime Minister Najib Razak and his cabinet also declare their assets for the whole world to see? The declaration by all ministers to the PM is not good enough.

Mind you, many prime ministers and presidents have been found to be corrupted, and some of them are now rotting in prison.

By declaring assets directly to the PM in line with the ‘You help me and I help you' philosophy, would be like ‘Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves' - all share the loot.

Who suffers? The taxpayers whose money has been squandered over the years; and nobody dares to complain because the sword of the Internal Security Act (ISA) could be used against them.

The ball is in the PM's court. Before the next general election, declare your assets before and after taking office. Also demand all your ministers to do the same.

ONG: The BN federal and state government leaders will not declare their assets because they are very kind and considerate towards Pakatan Rakyat leaders.

They are afraid that if they declare their assets, people will see that the assets of any one single BN minister or MB/CM will exceed the total assets of an entire Pakatan state exco.

Maybe it would even exceed the total assets of all the exco members in the four Pakatan states (perhaps excluding Selangor MB Abdul Khalid Ibrahim).

StevenForMalaysia: This is good leadership by example. We need this kind of chief minister and state exco members. All chief ministers and menteris besar should also declare their assets.

JFA: Hopefully all state governments can do what the Penang government is doing. The filing is meant to show that their assets are as clean as mineral water.

My family have in total 16 votes. We are rethinking who to vote for in this coming 13th general election. I'm not going to miss my opportunity and have 16 pencils ready in hand.

Isa@1penyu: It took three years to come out with this declaration, they (Penang cabinet members) must have done some creative transfers of bank accounts. If BN leaders were to declare their assets this late, this would have been the typical response from Pakatan.

Keturunan Malaysia: It's better to take three years to do something compared to 53-plus years of not doing anything.

Wira: It seems some Umno-BN supporters here don't get the point. When BN ministers declare their assets, they declare those to the PM (whether that actually happen, nobody knows. How much the ministers have or have declared, nobody knows).

Guan Eng and his exco are declaring their assets at a news conference to the public for scrutiny. It is also for the public record and for future comparison just in case they accumulate more wealth. See the difference?

Even if Guan Eng and his exco don't declare their wealth, I am not concerned because MACC (Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission) will nail them if they take one miss-step.

Look at Wanita Umno chief Shahrizat Abdul Jalil and the rest, you will know the immunity those corrupt leaders in Umno now enjoy.

Let's get Pakatan to clean up Putrajaya and send those untouchables to prison. Should they in turn be corrupted by power, we'll empower the future opposition to send these fallen angels to hell.

Mayang Emas: If BN ministers were to declare their assets, I bet every one of them would be worth many hundreds of millions or even billions of ringgit.

JS: As the opposition leader, Anwar Ibrahim should declare his assets, too. In fact, it should go back right from his BN days to today. Now that will be something worth looking at.

Joe Lee: Superb! Alas, this is a benchmark that is way too high for the thieves and robbers of Umno, MCA, MIC, and of course Sarawak Chief Minister Abdul Taib Mahmud.

Guan Eng has proven that Malaysia can be even better than the best First World countries. Forget about the tallest towers, biggest this or that of the many wasted Dr Mahathir Mohamad years.

This is part of the nation-building blocks that Malaysia needs. This is like going back to the good old days of Tunku Abdul Rahman when Umno and the civil servants did what they were expected to do, and were largely not corrupt.

Let's erase the legacy of the Evil One - the one who has caused so much grief and suffering to so many Malaysians. Let's banish greed from our body politic.

Mahathir, if you are reading this - eat your heart out. Guan Eng has done what you would not be able to do in a thousand years.

Okeylah: Too bad the PM's 1Malaysia policy does not include public declaration of the personal assets of all members of parliament and state assemblypersons.

Bala: Next, do pass a law on making compulsory in declaring assets of all state assemblypersons in Penang state since Pakatan have a two-thirds majority in the state assembly.

That will be much better than what BN can do. This show the commitment to fight against corruption.

HYL: If the asset declaration form were to be filled up by Sarawak CM Taib Mahmud, I think it would be 25cm thick.
