Sodomy II appeal: 'Stop wasting our money'

YOURSAY ‘Don't waste the taxpayers' money, you should be going after the murderers, robbers and rapists out there.'

Yusof recommends that AG appeals Anwar's acquittal

your say Cala: Outgoing solicitor-general II Mohd Yusof Zainal Abiden, I know where you are coming from. To be fair to you, I do not believe that words that you uttered were words that come out of your mind based on personal integrity.

I tend to buy the idea that politics would continue to trouble this Bolehland (by right it should not) due to malfunctioning of the judicial system - the result of Dr Mahathir Mohamad's action in 1988 judicial crisis.

Former lord president Mohamed Suffian Hashim said it well when he bemoaned the fact that the judiciary has lost its previous glory, competency and professionalism. Indeed, as he went on to predict, it will take a generation to recover from that fateful incident.

Today, there is not one moment that we believe the judicial system is well and running. Such is Mahathir's legacy.

Wira: Normally in an appeal, the appellate court will follow the adduced evidence of the High Court judge and will not rule against the judgment unless an obvious violation of natural justice is present.

However, in the ‘Malaysia Boleh' appeallate court, anything can happen.

Kgen: The attorney-general didn't appeal the Abdul Razak Baginda's acquittal in the case involving the murder of the Altantuya Shaariibuu.

Is seeking justice for one person's anus, which has no medical evidence of penetration, of such national importance that it supercedes seeking justice for a murder victim?

With this kind of messed-up priority, no wonder we are so backward compared to countries like Singapore and South Korea which have surged ahead of us.

After using blatantly unfair and illegal procedures to hamper the defence team, such as denying them witness records that they are entitled to, denying them DNA samples and denying them the DNA analysis report and losing the case in spite of all these shenanigans, Yusof now wants to appeal.

The prosecution has nothing except the tainted DNA evidence which has been thoroughly debunked. Even medical reports stating no penetration did not faze them.

This team of prosecutors is an absolute disgrace to their public office. Instead of protecting the public, they choose to protect Umno by seeking justice for one private citizen's virgin anus.

Patrick Lau: Yes, go ahead and drag Malaysian reputation further down the gutter.

Clever Voter: It is very obvious Plan B is on the cards. The BN government may go all the way and this depends on how PM Najib Razak weighs his chances of winning the GE13. Whatever decision Najib makes, the Malaysian people will be the biggest losers.

CiViC: I seriously don't get what is there to appeal. If the court had ruled that Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan's testimony alone is insufficient and DNA evidence could not be 100 percent established, what is there to appeal?

That all of sudden there are new evidence apart from these? Or all of sudden, Saiful's testimony is good enough? Doesn't that mean more and more ‘evidence' is being brought up just for the sake of prosecuting Anwar?

The basis of the case is not even there in the first place. The fact that the trial came to this stage is baffling enough, and the prosecution thinks there are reasons to appeal? Come on, stop wasting our money and time.

Open Minded: The evidence provided by the prosecution and its witnesses are so ambiguous and ridiculous that the case should have been thrown out at the onset.

Appealing for the sake of appealing is a foolhardy attempt that expects to ride on sympathy and pity and a false notion that injustice was done. Accept the decision.

Do not fear Anwar as he has already forgiven everyone .

Loyal Malaysian: This just means the celebrations have been too early. But no big deal, Anwar is be incarcerated - that's the Umnoputras grand design.

Let's just hope Anwar will strategise more thoroughly for Pakatan Rakyat's GE13 battle with the bonus time he has been given. It shall be his only option of an early release.

MalaysiaAustralia: Don't waste the taxpayers' money, you should be going after the murderers, robbers and rapists out there.

Onyourtoes: Yusof, you want justice Mohamad Zabidin Mohd Diah to expedite writing the grounds of judgment so that appeal could be filed?

Sure, you may do that, but before that, can you please ask the relevant judge to expedite the written judgment on Altantuya's murder case so that those convicted of murder can file their appeal.

How long ago was that murder case decided, but why is it that until today, there is still no written judgment. What are we waiting for?

You know what, may be Zabidin was really independent, it is you who had done a lousy and incompetent job.

Lim Chong Leong: Yusof has to act one more scene in this ‘sandiwara' to justify his actions as prosecutor to show he believed in his work.

YF: Make an appeal with Anwar being eventually convicted and Umno will say the Malaysian courts are always fair by doing the one-step forward, two-step back trick.

So who's to blame as usual? The courts, of course, not Umno. This kind of dirty trick is nothing new from Umno. Either way, Umno loses big time.

Ismail Mokhtar: I am an Umno member and I say enough is enough. After two years of embarassing headlines, everybody is totally fed up. For heaven's sake, just move on.
