Kulim-Bandar Baharu member of parliament Zulkifli Noordin described the recent court verdict in Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim's sodomy trial as a "killer blow" to the opposition.

He said the opposition had been accusing the government of conspiracy but when the verdict was delivered, it had laid bare their lies.

"It is indeed a killer blow for the opposition," he said. "They are now left with no answer."

On the sacking of Dr Hasan Ali from PAS, he said, it showed that PAS' Islamic struggle had been abandoned.

"It goes to show that PAS is now mired in political problems," he said, adding that Hasan need not join any political party at the moment because the sacked leader had become an institution.

"To me, it is better for Hasan to continue doing what he is doing because it is clear that his struggle is to uphold the Malay, Islam and the royal institution," he said.

The High Court on Monday acquitted Anwar on a charge of sodomising his personal aide Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan in 2008.
