Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak and his wife Rosmah Mansor are scheduled to attend the Penang Barisan Nasional (BN) Chinese New Year open house in George Town next Monday.   

Penang BN working committee chairperson Dr Teng Hock Nan said Najib is expected to deliver a speech at the event, to be held at Tanjong City Marina.  

“The open house, jointly organised by the BN component parties and carrying the theme ‘Najib for Moderation’, is expected to draw about 20,000 people,” he told reporters after a meeting of the committee in George Town today.  

Teng said the moderation theme was selected in keeping with Najib’s advocacy of moderation as the way forward for world peace at the United Nations General Assembly last year.    

“Besides celebrating Chinese New Year at our BN open house, the people who attend the celebration can also show their support for moderation for global peace,” he said.

Teng extended an invitation to all residents in the state and others to the open house “to add merriment to the occasion”.  

“We invite all Penangites of all races and of all political backgrounds to the open house,” he said.

The event, which will start at 4pm and end at 7pm, will incorporate cultural shows and an orchestra performance, he said, adding that ‘ ang pow ’ (cash packets) will be given to children.
