NFC fiasco just the tip of the iceberg

VOXPOP 'Remember what Shahrizat herself had said, ‘Tell me which leader in Umno has no problems?' Very telling indeed.

'Slash RM215,000 salary of NFC top executives'

vox populi small thumbnail Jeremy Ng: With such high salaries paid, the business must be either highly profitable or expenses are borne by the government.

I do not see the logic in them drawing such high pay. And, mind you, these are people without the necessary experience.

And obviously, the ministry involved must be sleeping to allow such salary levels. Had this not been exposed, this ‘1Lembu' project would have continued at the expense of the rakyat.

Anomnim: And this is only one exposed case. I am sure there are other more lavish arrangements for the elites.

No wonder some people can drive Ferraris and Lamborghinis. This free buffet must be stopped and the only way to do this is to destroy the regime.

L Joy: A freeze means all management staff must be put in cold storage before they destroy evidence of more CBT (criminal breach of trust) that PKR was unable to uncover.

But of course, we can't expect any such moves from these corrupt Umno leaders.

Remember what Umno Wanita chief Shahrizat Abdul Jalil herself had said, "Tell me which leader in Umno has no problems?" Very telling indeed.

Clever Voter: While we may be shocked at the high salaries, wait till the revelation of the kickbacks others receive. I'm quite sure such information will never be known.

I wonder if there is any commercial bank willing to lend Shahrizat's family the RM250 million based on their current credentials and business case. Your guess is good as mine.

Onyourtoes: This is a scam, not a business venture that has turned sour. Shahrizat's family on its own would never ever be able to siphon and abuse public funds the way they did.

How can the Treasury and the Agriculture Ministry approve a family of four as chairman, chief executive and directors of a company? This is the most basic tenet of corporate governance.

How can the chairman and directors ever decide their own salaries without Treasury's oversight?

The responsibility goes beyond the National Feedlot Corporation (NFC) and Shahrizat's family. It is time those in the Treasury and the Agriculture Ministry are held responsible.

Shahrizat could be just the red herring and sacrificial lamb, mark my words.

JChong: Why still pay them when they have allegedly cheated the rakyat? Instead ask them pay back the rakyat's money or the whole family should go to jail.

MatrixLYN: Maybe Najib meant "freezing the account from putting money in", but not "freezing the account from taking money out". In Malaysia, anything can happen.

'Najib placing Mydin's profits above rakyat's welfare'

Ferdtan: A businessman does not play partisan politics in such an open manner, unlike Mydin managing director Ameer Ali Mydin.

The reason is that it may affect their business, especially in the business of retailing, the rakyat may boycott their outlets. So much for business acumen for Mydin - maybe they have made enough and couldn't be bothered.

Pitbull: KR1M (Kedai Rakyat 1Malaysia) is a silly idea from the beginning. If PM Najib Razak is sincere, he should have given the outlets to individuals, why help one company when he could have created a 100 enterprises.

Obviously, he is not a wee bit concerned for the rakyat. Why can't the bumiputera see through this scam?

SMC77: Umno supporters are selling their future generations by feeding their children with sub-standard foods. It is good for Umno as they will continue to churn out brain-dead supporters.

Onyourtoes: Quality is certainly a concern with cheaper goods. If quality is suspect, the authorities must check and confirm whether or not quality has affected health concerns.

But what about the subsidy? Surely government subsidy should be translated into cheaper prices. So the issue here is how much of the RM40 million is passed down as subsidy to the rakyat.

If the government has provided subsidy for Mydin, then what about other groceries in the same business? How do you expect them to compete on a level-playing field?

Lower prices with same quality can only come from economic efficiency or if the owner chooses to make lower or no profits.

Mydin and the government must explain how and why they are more efficient than other supermarket chains. Alternatively, they must demonstrate that they are saints not interested in making money.

Jester: If given a choice, do you think our PM will use KR1M products? There is your answer.
