The DAP today hit back at Penang Gerakan chief Teng Hock Nam for accusing its secretary-general Lim Guan Eng of inappropriately using the media to ask for federal “goodies”, labeling Teng and his party as the real “beggars” instead.

                

“Lest Dr Teng forgets, the federal government collects taxes and is responsible to develop all the states.

NONE "Lim as the Penang chief minister speaks on behalf of the people of Penang,” the party’s international secretary Liew Chin Tong (left) said in a statement.

“He doesn’t have to beg for the rights of the people. It is the federal government that must fulfil its duty.”

Liew, who is also the member of parliament for Bukit Bendera, argued that the federal government is bound to act in such a way, in accordance with the wishes of the people and provisions enshrined in the federal constitution.

Returning Teng’s brickbats, he said that this maybe difficult for Gerakan, a subservient BN component party, to understand.

"They accept the dominance of the Malay party over all other BN component parties,” said Liew, accusing Teng (right) and Gerakan as the ones actually asking the people to beg from the federal government.

Liew alleged that it was Gerakan’s “begging” that made the people angry and voted BN out of Penang in the 2008 polls.

Liew was responding to a Bernama report yesterday where Teng slammed Lim for allegedly not using the proper channel in asking for “goodies” or projects from the federal government.
