Because of her allegedly illegible handwriting, a student from a university in Malaysia’s northern region was unable to use her 1Malaysia book voucher at a bookstore in Alor Setar today.

   

Shuhaida Mohd Said, 30, said that earlier, she had gone to the bookstore to purchase some academic material.

   

Unfortunately, one of her vouchers was rejected as a digit in the identification card number was said to be illegible.

   

“I am surprised the cashier could not read the number, ‘8', which I had written, while others in the shop could. She told me she was afraid to accept the voucher as the store’s management was strict.

   

“If I had misspelled my name, I can accept her reason, but this is only one number and anyone who looks at it carefully, can see it was written correctly,” she told Bernama in Alor Setar today.

She said she did not bring up the issue for mere publicity but to highlight the difficulty of using a government facility to help students.

   

“I may not be the only person to experience this. This might have also happened to other students, as well,” said Shuhaida, who hoped that those responsible would explain in detail the writing style required for the voucher.
