The Selangor Islamic Religious Council (Mais) will set up the complaints management committee and enforcement to monitor

proselytisation and deviationist teachings among Muslims in the state.

Its chairman Mohamad Adzib Mohd Isa said the committee, which was set up by Mais at a meeting today, would act on complaints against attempts to convert Muslims or mislead them into joining deviationist sects.

He said the committee, which comes under Mais, would work along with the Selangor Islamic Affairs Department (Jais) and the Selangor Zakat Centre (PZS).

The committee will act on complaints from the poor, needy and Muslim converts on difficulties in obtaining tithe assistance, he said after announcing the 2011 tithe collection and distribution in Selangor today.

In his speech, Mohd Adzib said the LZS tithe collection increased by 17 percent to RM393.54 million last year compared to RM336.93 million in 2010 while the number of zakat payers increased to 180,090 from 168,002.

He said the highest tithe collected last year came from income zakat at RM216 million followed by business zakat (RM79.7 million) and property zakat (RM33.7 million).

Mohd Adzib said the LZS targeted to collect RM430 million in tithes this year, an increase of nine percent from this year.
