The family members of deceased Teoh Beng Hock are calling upon the public to go to the Court of Appeal in Putrajaya at 9am on Feb 2 to support a judicial review of Teoh’s Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) findings.

Citing that this could be the last resort for a judicial review, Teoh’s sister Lee Lan said a large public gathering similar to the scale held at the verdict of Anwar Ibrahim Sodomy II trial, will lend the family “the most needed encouragement”.

NONE The court is scheduled to deliver its decision on the appeal for leave for Teoh’s family to seek judicial review on the RCI’s findings, particularly on the suggestion that Teoh committed suicide.

Teoh’s family has failed to obtain leave from Kuala Lumpur High Court on Oct 4, last year.

Lee Lan lamented that 2012 marks the third time the family will celebrate Chinese New Year without Beng Hock.

“While families are supposed to have reunions and everyone get together for celebrations, we still have to face these questions that frustrate us over and over again.

“What actually happened on July 16, 2009, at the scene of Beng Hock’s death? Why have the various doubts we raised gone unanswered?” Lee Lan queried in a statement yesterday.

‘Where is the truth we seek?’

Lee Lan said the doubts and the “presuppositional” answers did not help paint a clearer picture of the incident. Instead, it has created even more distrust.

“Besides setting up a coroner court and the RCI, the authorities have done nothing to put the culprits behind bars. Neither has the agency responsible hinted a sense of regret.

“Where is the truth we seek?” she asked.

NONE Beng Hock was found dead at the Selangor Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) building three years ago after being held overnight by officers for questioning.

In its report released in July, the RCI had postulated that the MACC had instituted a “fourth interrogation” on Beng Hock during the wee hours of the night.

The commission concluded that it was during that period that Beng Hock was pushed to the brink and he eventually committed suicide.
