The government needs to impose the mandatory jail sentence on reckless drivers who caused death in road accidents, Lee Lam Thye said.

vk lingam judge tape panel report 061107 lee lam thye Lee, who is a member of the Road Safety Council, said the government should also consider introducing a "drive safe and pay less" scheme, where drivers who had undergone defensive driving courses, would qualify for lesser insurance premium for their vehicles.

These were among the four measures suggested by Lee in a statement today to reduce road accidents, especially fatal accidents.

He also suggested that the government identify all dangerous stretches and take steps to rectify them and make them safe.

He also said a road safety syllabus should be introduced in school to inculcate good road etiquettes among the young and create a new breed of motorists and motorcyclists who not only care for their own safety but also for others.
