What's the fuss if you've nothing to hide?
YOURSAY ‘Is it because the assets acquired are way beyond the imagination of the rakyat?'
Mahathir supports declaration of assets
Annoyed Malaysian:
What is the security risk, if I may ask de facto Law Minister Nazri Aziz and former PM Dr Mahathir Mohamad, if the ministers declare their assets to the public?
It only becomes a security risk if the assets acquired are inconsistent with the official income of the ministers concerned, and also if the assets are way beyond the imagination of the rakyat.
Otherwise, it surely is without risk to declare them openly for all to see. They have got a lot to hide. That's why their flimsy excuses of not wanting to declare them openly but only to the MACC, which is a lap dog of the BN.
Oscar Kilo: Hello? Under the current regime, there is no such thing as an "independent body".
Nik V: This is pretty much doublespeak, for no matter which body is recommended, the corrupt Umno-BN will consider them biased. The tone has already been set by Nazri Aziz.
When you are not corrupt and are serving the public office as a government servant or servant of the people, you would be proud to declare your assets, like Nik Aziz and many from the opposition.
But when you have questionable assets that way exceed your earning capacity, I am sure you will feel "in danger".
It's time to make these untouchables realise that they are mere employees of the rakyat.
Wfworker: How come Dr Mahathir did not impose this during his 22 years in power?
Gerard Samuel Vijayan: In Mahathir's view, a public declaration of assets is not in the national interest. So the people ought to only concentrate on national unity and nation building, but say yes to corruption and abuses of power by ministers and their families.
This must be a new kind of political theory a la Umno/BN. If ministers and their families live within their means and can account for their wealth, the people are not going to slander them but if not, then they deserve to be condemned and denounced as traitors to the nation.
James1067: All this is talk and no action. No corrupt politician will declare his or her assets. So let's not be carried away by this side-drawing attention. Let's concentrate on the main issue - to get rid of these non-declaring politicians. We all know that their main assets and monies are all parked overseas.
Kamarul Ali: I hope Umno politicians would not declare their assets as it will jeopardise nation-building. It will be too much for the courts and police to handle. Just leave it be for them to build the nation while enriching themselves.
Joe Lee: The bottom line is that whether it's Nazri or Mahathir saying Umno cannot and will not declare their assets to the public, don't tell us that you can declare this to a Mickey Mouse 'independent' group.
They have to explain to the people why Penang CM Lim Guan Eng can do it and they can't. Is it because Lim Guan Eng is anti-Malay, going by the Utusan-Umno-Perkasa rhetoric?
Or more likely, is it because Umno is actually the rotten party that is really anti-Malay, since it's the poor Malays who are the biggest victims of Umno's thieving?
Yes Umno, the party that is forever spewing 'Agama, Bangsa dan Negara' hypocritically, is scared stiff that once the kampung folk find out about the millions and billions that are the assets of the Umnoputeras, they will go amok, and will chase Mahathir, Nazri and other Umno clowns down with their parang. We await the Mubarak moment in Malaysia.
