Gerakan kick-starts its polls drive on TV and radio

your say Wira: The Gerakan commercial on radio mentioned Penang had attracted RM40 billion in foreign direct investments (FDIs) from 1990 to 2008.

In 2010 alone, the Penang Pakatan Rakyat government managed to attract RM12.2 billion in FDI, or a whopping 36 percent of the country's total.

Indeed, 2011 promises to be another record-breaking year for this northern state. PM Najib Razak should learn from Penang that when you run a clean government, investors will come.

Rick Teo: I don't know why Gerakan is throwing good money after bad. There is no ghost of a chance for Gerakan to make a comeback.

DAP will be in Penang for a long, long time. So why waste your money advertising about your achievements, which amounts to nothing?

Gerakan leaders Koh Tsu Koon and Dr Teng Hock Nan should start looking for other jobs. I don't think their party will even win a single seat.

Anonyxyz: For many years, Penang BN made up of Gerakan and Umno have been taking Penangites for granted, sucking and milking public money (and you can't do that without projects) costing xxx times above cost and have never been accountable.

Gerakan had let Umno to make all the decisions and was happy to be the running dog, taking the leftovers and ignoring all other aspects of a fair and clean government.

March 2008 woke Gerakan up, but it went into hibernation soon after. And now with the hoo-ha that it may be asked to lead Penang BN again, Gerakan starts to play its old records again.

But are Penangites really that stupid? The GE13 results will prove that. Let's wait and see.

Concern Ctzen: People today will only support a good, clean and honest government with great integrity and transparency. BN has too many things to cover up. So many corruption cases have been buried under the carpet.

The Cowgate, Sarawak Chief Minister Abdul Taib Mahmud's case, etc, etc. What has MACC (Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission) done so far? It's time for change.

Onyourtoes: It is so funny: Gerakan did so much, but got thrown out like a bag of garbage in March 2008. Then comes this advertisement. Again the party denied it was the party's doing, yet it has everything to do with the party.

The party did not pay for the advertisement but it reportedly cost between one and two million ringgit. The advertisement was arranged by party supporters and paid for by party supporters but they have nothing to do with the party.

The Gerakan president did not know the details but was able to say it was not expensive and the duration was only 30 seconds.

Then came the most funny part, the central committee had discussed and accepted this advertisement as a "good offer". So they have discussed and accepted what they did not know.

How oxymoron can they get? They can't even lie coherently.

JomUbahUbah: The ending of the advertisement should be, "We, Gerakan, have worked together with the corrupt Umno for so long that you must let Gerakan continue to swindle your monies."

Kali: Gerakan to walk with us? Walk with us for what? We are happy walking with DAP-led Lim Guan Eng.

Casey_1019: Yes, Penang did get its share of development (infrastructures and other heritage acknowledgments from Unesco, etc) under BN (or any government).

It is the perceived corruption and kowtow-ing to the Umnoputra "partner" that is what the savvy Penang electorate could not stomach.

The advertisement points out the obvious. It may be good for promoting tourism, but it will not do an iota of good for BN in the coming GE.

It only tells Penangites that all that have been achieved could have been achieved at much lower costs and more transparently.

Myop101: I was in Penang many years back and I found it a big mess. Ask anyone who is not from Penang and has visited the state before and after 308 (March 2008 GE). They cannot deny that things are looking better today compared to pre-308.

You may claim to build a lot of infrastructure and such, but why do Penangites come in droves to work in Kuala Lumpur if it is as promising as what was claimed before? Nowadays, I notice a reversal of migration and that speaks a lot because people are voting with their feet.

Isn't it due to BN-led government that they revoked Penang's free port status and later, instead of restoring it, they decided to gave Langkawi the duty-free status? Or why promote Kulim to draw high-tech investments away from Penang?

They could have promoted Seberang Prai and make many high-tech industrial parks there because it makes good logistic sense, but why focus on Kulim and Langkawi (which neither can claim a great success even after so many years)?

Similarly, why start the MSC (Multimedia Super Corridor) in Cyberjaya instead of Penang (which naturally have been attracting many high-tech firms?).

As a non-Penangite, I already sense the biasness of this BN-led federal government against Penang, treating it as a stepchild state. What have Gerakan do to fight for Penang? Has ‘begging' as advocated by Teng did any good?

20121221Disaster: Gerakan leaders are shamelessly showing off its little achievements after 50 year of BN rule.

Top leaders of Gerakan and MCA know very well that Umno is corrupted and had rotted to its core but dare not mention about it.

However, a party greenhorn Ceylyn Tay, a councillor in Ipoh, said it out publicly . But she said Umno misdeeds are of no concern with MCA and Gerakan. She forgot that MCA and Gerakan are helping a devil to remain in power.
