A Syariah law enforcement central committee will be set up to step up enforcement of the enactment on the control and restriction of the propagation on non-Islamic religions to Muslims.

NONE Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Jamil Khir Baharom said the decision was made at a meeting with state legal advisers and the state Islamic Religious Department heads in Bangi today.

The committee, chaired by Jamil Khir, will comprise the state Islamic Religious directors and representatives from the Home Ministry, the Attorney-General’s Chambers and the police, he told reporters after the two-hour meeting.

He said the committee would monitor enforcement of the law by the Islamic Religious Departments in the respective states.

Jamil Khir said the law had existed since 1980, but there were some states which did not enforce it.

“For states which still do not have the law, they should bring up the matter to the relevant parties,” he added.
