Noh Omar defends the indefensible

YOURSAY 'What irks us is that the top executives ala the Shahrizat family are siphoning off the rakyat's money for personal ends.'

Nor Omar defends NFC, project not a failure

your say Onyourtoes: Agriculture Minister Noh Omar, let's go back to the fundamentals. It is useless to say this project is not a failure when we all know this project is destined for failure from the very beginning.

It is most unfortunate that only this project is highlighted. If you look at past projects of similar characteristics - such as InventQjaya, the R&D (research and development) fund and grants, the tuna fish project (please explain what happened to this project), PKFZ, the SME funds, grants to development banks like Bank Rakyat, BSN, etc, Biovalley, the Bollywood and the E-Village - they all failed miserably.

The government cannot simply dish out money to rogues to do business/projects on their behalf. It cannot be done because these rogues will be doing business without risks and without cost of capital. There will be no incentive to determine the commercial and economic viability of projects.

Just ask Wanita Umno chief Shahrizat Abdul Jalil's family whether they would do this business (i.e. rearing and fattening cows and supply beef) if they have to do it using their own money and taking their own risks.

I am 100 percent sure there was a tacit understanding that the loan taken need not be paid back. No one would take loan to invest recklessly and spend lavishly if they have to pay back, not even an irresponsible nincompoop.

If the government really want to increase beef supply, this is how it should have done it - just announce that the government is providing land for cattle-rearing in Gemas.

Those interested can make use of the land, but they have to import and take care of cattle and determine their own beef supply chain. I am sure genuine cattle ranchers will do a better job.

2CTS Worth: Noh Omar, we are not fools. So an explanation from auditor-general makes things okay?

How is getting the loan a year in advance of the signing of the agreement okay? How is the money loaned for a project deviating from its objective okay?

How is a family knowing precious little about cattle breeding appointed to run the cow farm okay? How are the exorbitant salaries paid to these greenhorns okay?

You are right, NFC is not in a mess The right term is it is in disaster mode. You are the real fool to think you can eyewash us with your dumb statement.

Trumpet Call: Noh, you are barking at the wrong tree. The rakyat is not so much concerned whether the NFC project is a failure or not.

What irks us is that the top executives ala the Shahrizat family are siphoning off the rakyat's money for personal ends.

We demand satisfactory answers to our questions regarding the condo purchases, the high-end restaurants in Singapore and the excessive high-flying lifestyle.

It really sickens me that even at this stage, the government is still trying to pooh-pooh the whole sordid affair. We demand accountability.

Podeh: I think this is the peak of absurdity; after all the con-artistry, Noh Omar now wants to claim that NFC (National Feedlot Corporation) is not a failure.

Next he will claim that Shahrizat's brood of morons are probably rank in the top 50 business people in the world and she is the model of a back-door minister.

At the rate this is going, Shahrizat's family is the most gifted in running NFC, and the NFC project a brainchild of Noh to save the cattle industry in Malaysia. The only thing unmentioned is the hundreds of millions of rakyat's money squandered.

The last, in their mind, is not very important - opulence is required to show one and all the superficial signs of success, the SOP (standard operating procedure) of Umno business model.

Most Malaysians are looking for a place to puke.

One Hand Cover the Sky: Of course, the NFC project is not a 100 percent failure. We can see that cows are still grazing and luxury condos are being purchased to shelter them.

Such good quality beef that only the rich and famous can afford to buy.

Clearwater: The KPI (key performance indicator) is reduced to 8,000 heads of cattle from original target of 60,000 heads despite a RM250 million soft loan, and Noh Omar still dare call the NFC project a success?

He is a joker of a federal minister, much like many of his colleagues. Please save Malaysia from such clowns. Vote them out.

Up2U: Whether the NFC project is a failure or not is left to be seen. The question before us is the soft loan of RM250 million and the misuse of the loan for purpose other than what it was intended for.

Who are the guarantors and will this loan be a NPL (no performing loan) if the NFC is a failure.

Gordon Gecko: Noh Omar and Sharizat = Umno. Therefore we can conclude that "cows of the same hide graze together".
