Keadilan Youth leader Mohd Ezam Mohd Nor has accused the police of being "used" by the powers that be to instil fear in the hearts of leaders and members of the Opposition.

Mohd Ezam claimed that on Saturday at about 2.30am, six policemen forced their way into and ransacked a hotel room in Klang without a warrant. The room at the Crystal Crown Hotel was occupied by Kedah Keadilan Youth chief Zamil Ibrahim.

"Without giving him a chance to open the door, the policemen went in and without identifying themselves or producing a warrant, handcuffed Zamil and ransacked the room for some 30 minutes," said Ezam.

"When they were done, they released him and simply said that they were there because they had received instructions from their operations room that there was something suspicious in the hotel room," he added.

Klang police hq unsure

Met in Shah Alam yesterday, Zamil confirmed the incident.

However, a police spokesperson at the crime unit at the Klang police headquarters was unable to confirm nor deny that such an incident took place.

"I am not sure about this as I have not received any information about the matter," said the police inspector, who wanted only to be known as Jamirin.

Slamming the police for their "violent and reckless" action, Ezam said that "their behaviour can only be said to be politically motivated."

"It is as if they want to harass and frighten Opposition leaders, especially our Youth people," he said.

"We demand answers from the police and the Home Ministry about the matter," he added.

Ezam said the people needed assurances that the police would not be used to serve the interest of the ruling party.
