PAS secretary-general Mustafa Ali and Johor PAS have confirmed rumours that party vice-president Salahuddin Ayub will contest in Johor for the coming general election.

Mustafa confirmed that there have been discussions but there is no final decision yet, he was quoted as saying by Malay daily Sinar Harian .

Johor PAS commissioner Mahfodz Mohamed also confirmed rumours that Salahuddin, who hails from Pontian, Johor, will contest in the Umno bastion.

Mahfodz said this is one of the strategies which he had proposed to PAS because Salahuddin hails from Johor and it will give an impetus for Pakatan Rakyat to try and break the Barisan Nasional and Umno stronghold.

NONE “Not only Salahuddin, we also welcome PAS central committee member Mazlan Aliman ( left ) to also contest in Johor,” he was quoted as saying in another report by the daily.

There have been rumours that Salahuddin, a two-term Kubang Kerian MP, will contest in Johor and if Pakatan wrest the state, he could be the coalition's nominee as the next menteri besar.

Salahuddin is expected to announce his decision on where to contest at the end of the month.

“Wait, when the right time comes I will hold a press conference to announce where I will contest. I will make the announcement in the coming weeks,” he said.

                

Salahuddin has also been slated to not only defend his Kubang Kerian seat but also possibly contest in Pasir Mas, Kelantan and also Titiwangsa in the Federal Territory.

The PAS secretary-general also admitted there are discussions towards this.

“It is not a rumour but there is a strong move towards this and a final decision has yet to be made,” Mustafa was quoted as saying by the daily.

Meanwhile Umno information chief Ahmad Maslan, who is the Pontian MP, said the party is prepared if Salahuddin wants to contest in his home state as reported by Sinar Harian .
